About Me
Some of you may know who I am, and some of you probably don’t know me from Joe. Either way, I appreciate you taking time to read this.
My name is Will Carter, and I am a sports reporter for the Shelbyville Times-Gazette — a local newspaper in Shelbyville, Tenn. My journalism career started at Middle Tennessee State University where I graduated in May 2022 with a Bachelor’s in Journalism with a focus in Sports Media. I worked as the Sports Editor of MTSU’s student outlet — Sidelines — for a year before I graduated. From there, I joined the staff at the Times-Gazette where I had interned the summer before my senior year of college. I interned with Music City Baseball/Nashville Stars that same summer, and that was one of the cooler experiences I’ve had. I owe a lot to the Stars, and I hope one day they will succeed in bringing Major League Baseball to Nashville. Middle Tennessee has been my home for all 23 years of my life so far as I grew up in Wartrace, Tenn. which has a population of less than 1,000 people. Nearby Cascade High School is where I grew my wings, and it just so happens to be in the Times-Gazette’s coverage area. Real full circle moment for me, I know. But that’s enough about me for now; let’s get into exactly what this is and will be.
Will’s Words
I had the idea of starting a Substack around a month ago, but I never got around to the brass tacks of it all. At its core, this newsletter is simply just an outlet for me to write what I want to, when I want to. It may not be published every week, or even every month for that matter, but when I’m provoked to fire up my keyboard, I will. Obviously sports will be at the forefront of it all, but I’m not going to limit myself to just sports either. One newsletter could be about sports, and the next may be about the concepts of life. That’s the beauty of Substack; I have the freedom to do what I want. Some people may enjoy reading what I write, but most probably won’t, and that’s fine with me. I didn’t pick this career because I wanted people to like me and yearn for my writing. I chose it because sports are a large part of who I am as a person, and I learned in college that I love writing and storytelling.
Outro
With all that being said, I look forward to producing some content periodically for whoever feels the need to read it. Oh, and it’ll all be free because who would I be to throw a paywall in front of slightly above average writing? (Unless of course this turns into something bigger than I expect it to, but we’ll see about that)
Until next time — WC

This is going to be GREAT
